The intervention is about the redevelopment of the Public Healthcare Laboratories Center in Milan. The plan includes development of multiple actions linked by a number of shared goals, such as implementation of prevention activities. The new LSP must ensure unity and multidisciplinary integration to encourage innovative solutions in the fields of toxicology and molecular biology. The 1940 building, listed by Milan Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, is oriented along via Juvara. The design philosophy of the typical laboratory plan is to create functional and flexible spaces in a manner that would allow additions and alterations resulting from changing needs and evolving research technology. The new vertical addition on the main facade, containing new lifts, refers its character and materiality to the original construction. The stone cladding is defined by a grid of six cm-thick botticino linear elements, while the gazing are flush with the stone thin veneer, providing to the new volume an abstract and severe character.
